Colorado or Bust…

Hangin' out West

After a summer trip (1991) to Winter Park, CO with my grandma , I knew where I would relocate after graduation in the Spring. My cousins owned a restaurant called Deno’s Mountain Bistro and offered me employment there. I chose a different route. BGSU had a Hospitality major in their Business Department, so many hotels recruited at our job fairs. When I saw recruiters for the Sheraton Steamboat Conference Center in Steamboat, CO at a job fair in OHIO, I knew it was destiny. Many phone interviews and calls later, I received the job. I was the only Intern without a Hospitality degree. After graduation, I headed west to discover skiing, rodeos and mountain while living in a ski-in/ski-out apartment.Sheraton Steamboat Springs Resort & Conference CenterMarketing Assistant & Guest Services Assistant, 1992-1993Internship gaining overall knowledge of hotel operations. Solved guest problems efficiently and promptly while keeping accurate data of guest accounts. Answered questions and helped guests while remaining hospitable. Promoted to Marketing office where handled direct mail projects, prepared reports and stayed current on all accounts pending for group sales. Maintained open communication with Front Office, Convention Services & Sales Office.

On personal note, after living in Steamboat for about 4 months, I convinced a high school classmate Troy to move out there too! Troy’s 2 friends from home (John & Pat) came to visit him. Since Troy had to work a lot, I showed the friends around town. Before the week ended I knew that John was the “one”. Long story short, we were married within a year of meeting each other.

Jeremiah 29:11 states, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
